The Rhythm & Roots Play

RHYTHMS & ROOTS is a vibrant, musical adventure that celebrates African American heritage, nature, and the power of music, with a good dose of humor along the way. The story follows four Black kids-Zuri, Malik, Tasha, and Jalen-who embark on an unexpected journey through a mystical forest where they encounter the voices of their ancestors.

Guided by the spirit of Mother Nature, they come face-to-face with legendary figures: the fearless Harriet Tubman, a rebellious outlaw who defied the odds, and a brilliant scientist whose inventions changed the world. As history comes alive before their eyes, they must navigate the lessons of the past to uncover their own strength, purpose, and legacy.

Performed by the talented youth of Junior Black Campers, Rhythm & Roots is a powerful stage play that blends history, adventure, and self-discovery.

Through storytelling, music, and movement, this production reminds us that the past is always present-and that we all have a role in shaping the future.
